SOCIAL CONNECTIVITY

"Solitude vivifies. Loneliness kills."  --Daniel Black

Social connections and relationships play a vital role in our physcal, mental and emotional health. Research shows that the single most important predictor of human happiness and long life is having strong social connections. Individuals with robust social networks tend to have lower rates of mortality, reduced risk of developing chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and dementia.

We'll talk about things like:

  • volunteering
  • staying in regular touch with friends and family
  • joining a religious or spiritual group
  • checking in on a friend or family member just to make sure they're doing OK
  • quickly connecting with people you see a lot during the week
  • staying positive when connecting with people
  • being flexible, supportive and excited about what others are doing in their lives
  • being mindful that technology may not be promoting actual social connections
  • being there for those that need you and much more
